The concept of triage first came in the time of the First World War. In this study a SWOT analysis has been performed on the role of triage in emergency care and a PESTEL analysis of UK.

Analysis

In the above SWOT analysis table it has been identified that triage in emergency care helps in providing fast medical care that is also cost efficient. While going for treatment patients do face major litigations. According to Ebrahimi et al. (2016), triage removes major litigations and has the potential to reduce severity. One of the major strengths that has been identified is triage brings reduction in the visit to emergency care as patients are treated even in waiting rooms. In terms of weakness the treatment time that is provided to the patients can be limited as there is a huge volume of patients. In addition to this, there may be possible health deterioration in triage. One of the major weaknesses is that there is no maintenance of any standard care as in times of emergency patients may be treated outside of emergency rooms. The major opportunities that have been identified are prioritisation of care users those looking for emergency care. In the views of Rehman and Ali (2016), it can be stated that triage has helped in the reduction of LWBS as it utilises all possible resources available to provide high care. Another major opportunity of triage is it has the potential to establish proper communication and also aids for maintaining patient privacy. As per the potential threats for triage there are high rate of interruptions that does affect the quality of care. On the other hand in triage the level of acuity among the care users can be critical and poses a major threat (Duke, 2016).

The study has shed light on the strengths as well as weakness of triage with the help of a SWOT analysis. A PESTEL analysis has been performed on the UK and it can be said that the country intends to have a high rate of growth in terms of economy and has been bringing technological advancements. Triage is not only helpful for providing fast care but is highly cost efficient.
